For this performance, I chose to focus on an environmental message. My project tackles modern development practices, and how they often come at the cost of protecting nature. To represent nature, I chose to projection map onto a house plant which I've owned for several months. The plant represents life, growth, and fragility. I chose to display construction equipment and natural disasters encroaching on the plant and surrounding it, in order to demonstrate the way natural land is put at risk by human interference . I also chose to include bright visuals on the plant itself, to represent the beauty of life within. The holes in the leaves of this monstera plant also gave an interesting effect, as they caused the projected images to create harsh shadows of the plant, which further exaggerated the value and fragile nature of the delicate plant. I chose to include myself in the project to help create the concert visual feel, and to demonstrate my role as someone who cares a lot for the environment. I chose to accompany my visual performance with "ROYGBIV" by Boards of Canada, as it plays nicely with the rainbow visuals within the performance, and because the song feels somewhat dramatic and serious, while still containing playful or lighthearted motifs such as laughter, a theme carries over into many of my projects.
